ThisIs50.com of 50 cent is a bad domain name on an over saturated social networking market. ThisIs my 2 cent’s worth on G-Unit’s efforts to cash in starting a MySpace rip off.
Quick fact: many people do not know that G-Unit stands for Glitter-Unit!

50 cent the all around bad ass gangsta rapper and Social Media? A match made in da hood?
Let’s rephrase it: G-Unit is marketing a multi million dollar brand name recording artist to the social networking addicts. Yes, it is all about more music and apparel sales along with revenue from any ad that gets clicked on.

I do feel the whole gangster theme is a bit out of date but I could be wrong on that.

But dear 50 fans do not get too excited, 50 cent is not involved in the web design, content creation, marketing or have any significant part of the website.
Do not expect 50 popping into a chat room every night because he cannot get a girl (or if he does he will be signing out under 60 seconds with a handful of mobile phone numbers).

The website has one purpose: come and spend your money and waste your time belonging to yet another online community, not like there is inherently anything wrong with that, everyone has the right to waste their lives or make another few million dollars.

The question is will ThisIs50.com succeed or die trying?
BEWARE: there is some T&A even on the index page which makes ThisIs50.com not safe for work!

I will be curious to see if glitter graphics will be a big part of 50 cent’s MySpace clone.
Many people may say a loud enthusiastic NO! But to underestimate the power of glitter graphics is a mistake only amateurs make.
Perhaps a new breed of glitter graphics will emerge, more dangerous than we have ever seen before. A style of comment posting that is reminiscent of Compton drive by shootings, glitter graphics meets Grand Theft Auto!

If any glitter cuteness manages to show up on the pages of Thisis50.com that can be explained by 50 cent having a more sensitive side as well. Disgustingly cheesy glitter graphics will always find a way in, it is in their DNA!

I believe the domain name ThisIs50.com is an unfortunate one. I do not get the point, I do not like looking at it an do not like typing it but 50 cent had the domain name since 2006 and now decided to use it.
I searched for alternatives including misspellings i.e. DisIs50.com or ThisSi50.com, you guessed all taken, parked and for sale.

Chris “Broadway” Romero, director for new media at G-Unit Records who is in charge of Thisis50 says this:

“The thing that separates Thisis50 from MySpace is we control the e-mail database. We can email members if we want to.”

50 Cent fans, watch out for frequent spam .. hmmm, I mean periodical newsletters!
Unless of course you think it is really cool to get an email from 50 … although in reality that email will come from a spam bot of a mass email marketing company.
